Tax Invoice Template — Frequently Asked Questions

If you're registered for GST, you generally need to provide a tax invoice when your customer asks for one for a taxable sale of more than $82.50 including GST. Your customer needs it to claim GST credits. For sales of $82.50 or less, you don't have to issue a tax invoice — a receipt is enough — although you can still provide one if your customer asks. Confirm current thresholds on the ATO's tax invoice page.

For taxable sales of $1,000 or more, the tax invoice generally also needs to show the buyer's identity or ABN. Below that, the seller's details, the date, a description, and the GST amount are generally enough.
